Create a new Wikibase instance

[edit]

Click the Create new wiki button on the dashboard page to create a new instance of Wikibase.

Site name

[edit]

Your site's name, or title, will appear on every page of your Wikibase. You can easily change this later.

For those familiar with MediaWiki configuration files: this option sets $wgSitename.

Site domain

[edit]

Your site's domain is the web address where your site can be reached. Choose how your site will look in a browser's URL bar.

You have two options:

  • Free subdomain: You can choose a subdomain, the portion of the site address before "wikibase.cloud". The entire domain, including ".wikibase.cloud", must contain at least 20 characters.
Example: my-data-repository.wikibase.cloud
  • Custom domain: Alternatively, you can use a domain name that you control.
To use a custom domain, you will need to add to the domain's DNS[1] a CNAME[2] record that points to sites-1.dyna.wikibase.cloud.

Your user

[edit]

Choose a username that will serve as your Wikibase's first user, an administrator. Once you have submitted this form, check your email to find login details for this user.

Terms of Use

[edit]

Read the Terms of Use. If you agree to them, check the box to the left.

Submit the form

[edit]

Click Create wiki. Once the form has been successfully submitted, you will see the settings page for your new wiki.
