Help:CirrusSearch

[edit]

In some way I don't understand, your edit of 21:03, 27 September 2015 seems to have broken the link to the Help talk:CirrusSearch page (under the Frequently asked questions header). Could you take a look at it please? Colonies Chris (talk) 14:04, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand edits such as [1]. What software do you use, that breaks newlines and everything? Nemo 18:07, 13 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Also, removing all translation unit markers is not acceptable, hence I restored the preceding version. Your work on the help page is appreciated but please conduct it on a separate sandbox without disrupting the main help page, and merge your text back into the correct places once ready. Nemo 18:11, 13 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for stating your appreciation towards me personally. I've answered on the relevant talk page. Cpiral (talk) 00:37, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I can help preparing your version for translation. For this I need:
  • your version to live on a separate, editable draft page;
  • you to perform some basic cleanup, for instance of the weird newlines;
  • you, someone or (as very last resort and probably not in the next couple months) me to restore the translation unit markers for the paragraphs which survived from the older version;
  • ideally, for the remaining paragraphs, some way to compare the text of the old and new ones (diff is impossible unless paragraphs are in the same order).

An external diff utility could diff paragraphs as files.
I think I now understand the "Why?"s about this: a very high value must be placed on already-translated units, therefore, although it may have been a real dilemma at first, now MediaWiki must choose i18n over re-publishing major content-revisions. Thanks.
As of now your original route seems best. So I'll cleanup the translated version (best I can). Then I'm going to move untranslated CirrusSearch content to the Wikipedia draft of CirrusSearch. Lastly, maybe we'll work on translating the reverted content, now at User:Cpiral/CirrusSearch. Cpiral (talk) 07:30, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I've watchlisted your draft, I'll probably look into it at some point. Nemo 07:20, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Search-talk from Wikipedia

[edit]

From W: User talk:Cpiral, subject: Proposed changes to searching: query-final question marks

Hi Cpiral. Since you've put a lot into maintaining the help:search page I thought you might want to weigh in on the discussion about how to deal with question marks (?). So many people use them to ask questions on various Wikipedias, and they get weird or no results because they don't know it's a wildcard. If you have thoughts on the matter, please join the discussion on the Phab ticket. Thanks. TJones (WMF) (talk) 14:19, 8 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring

[edit]

Please stop edit warring. You've reverted this edit twice. With no explanation. This is an edit that User:CKoerner (WMF) thanked me for making. I've tried discussing it with you in multiple forums (talk page, here- it's the other improvement you threw out like bathwater. STOP. --Elvey (talk) 00:44, 15 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

W:wp:Edit warring is well defined. Because I practice the bold-revert-discuss pattern, explanations are not usually needed. Now they are. Now we fix our "mistakes" in our common effort. See you at Help talk:Searching. All the best. Cpiral (talk) 20:05, 21 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Updated Help:CirrusSearch

[edit]

Hello Cpiral, I took your great work at User:Cpiral/CirrusSearch and integrated it into the main Help:CirrusSearch page. With the update to the "Help" link on Special:Search arriving next week (finally) this page should get the right amount of attention (versus Help:Searching) for Wikimedia wiki's. I know you're a busy person, but if you have a moment to look it over I would greatly appreciated it. I did my best to keep translate tags in place and favored your wording over the existing language. I still have a few tvar tags to add and then I'll mark it for translations and ask for assistance. Thank you again for your help and let me know if you see anything out of sorts. CKoerner (WMF) (talk) 22:09, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks both, I'm glad this happened! Nemo 21:49, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Finally. Cpiral (talk) 00:35, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
