Wiki Timeslicer or Wiki Strata (latter name from User:Wittylama) is the idea of making a wiki viewable at a specific point in time.
While it is possible to go back to a specific version of an article, it may not look the same. So the tool would have to take in account the local time for a number of things, a few of them listed below.
- Templates - get the version of the template at the time - this may cascade a number of times. (Also includes Lua modules.)
- Images - may update over time, check for older versions.
- Links - some pages may not have existed at that time, check if they should be red links.
- Skin and software updates - this may be the hardest one to emulate.
This would be a slow way to browse as there are so many permutations, pages probably need to be assembled when requested, and that will involve a lot of calls. But it may still be a very interesting wiki archeology tool.
