Enable machine translation for Simple English

Hi,

Just to be consistent, the automatic machine translation provided by Yandex for English to another supported language should also be enabled when translating from Simple English (i.e. Simple English Wikipedia) to the supported language.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the feedback, @Jagwar.

This makes perfect sense. When English is available by a translation service, it should be also exposed to Simple English. I created a ticket to capture the request, feel free to follow it to track progress or add further details.

Awesome, thank you.

I support this suggestion. Because the English is simpler, Google Translate tends to produce a better translation than from the "proper" English site. The articles may not be as complete on Simple English as they are on "proper" English, but a translation from simple always provides a good basis for an article to expand

Try this URL out. The GoogleTrans gadget has a feature where translation of paragraphs can happen in the Content Translation Tool, by selecting the paragraph, in the middle column, and holding CRTL-ALT key down for a second. It uses Google translation services to do the work.

This gadget is on the Simple Wikipedia. You can simply enable it in Settings. You don't need to copy a reference to it into your common.js file
