For a message from barwiki I only saw <samp>Benachrichtigungen konnten nicht abgerufen werden. Bitte erneut versuchen. (Fehler Der Zugriff auf die Remote-Domäne wurde abgelehnt.)</samp> (translates to something like <q>Notifications could not be fetched. Please try again. (Error The access to the remote domain was denied.)</q>) <small>Besides the actual error, there is this missing colon in the error text ;-) <small>Btw: Is there no preview in this LiquidThreads stuff? Besides that I can't use the Tab key… I'm glad we don't have this enabled on dewiki.</small></small> --Nenntmichruhigip (talk) 08:24, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

same for itwiki now. --~~~~
It may be useful to note trouble ticket Phab:T129764. It suggests this may be caused as a result of use of some kind of javascript blocking at the browser such as NoScript or Privacy Badger in Firefox?
On behalf of Nenntmichruhigip:
Of course I am using NoScript, but with WMF-Wikis allowed. Browser console only showed requests to my home wiki's /w/api.php?action=centralauthtoken&format=json, no warnings or anything. Well, turned out the message was actually on itwikisource, which didn't yet make it to my whitelist. After adding it it works.
I'm not sure if that type of error can be identified in the script, but if it's possible I'm suggesting to change the error message to something sounding less like "something in the internal server-to-server-communication didn't work" :-) --Nenntmichruhigip (talk) 10:40, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Nenntmichruhigip: No problem. In my own case NoScript wasn't the blocking extension but Privacy Badger was instead. I agree the message is poor and misleading but as I am not in a position to really influence the developers the best I can suggest is making a comment at the trouble ticket whilst it is still attracting some attention and in fact I am about to do so.
