2016-2017 Q3 goals

[edit]

"Improve wiki account authentication" is extremely generic and unclear. The main problem users experience is that logging in on a wiki doesn't succeed to login you everywhere (usually you have to login on 2-3 wikis to be logged in on all the main ones) and that there is frequent undetected session data loss (the most recent report I read was a few days ago). There should be monitoring systems to detect and debug such issues: we never recovered from the decrease in reliability of login after SUL2. Nemo 10:21, 26 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Information overload

[edit]

I'm finding more and more pages about security which are very hard to find, let alone maintain. Perhaps it would be useful to review the previous round of newly created pages before adding more. Nemo 12:09, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request for Help

[edit]

Greetings from Aniket, I am a contributor and SysOp on Gujarati Wikipedia.

Since last few months, I have been getting security alerts from English Wikipedia and Commons that someone is trying to break-in into my account. He or They also try to do email recovery but fortunately I do have my own email address linked with my account so I myself get those emails.

Please help me resolve this issue.

Security Council?

[edit]

@JBennett (WMF) and DSharpe (WMF): Certain pages have mentioned a "Security Council", here and on Phabricator, but no information or documentation has been provided. Wikimedia Foundation Security Council is a redlink, both here and on Meta. Could anyone provide some information on what the Security Council is? --Yair rand (talk) 01:59, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Yair rand: There's this bit of public documentation https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Security_Team/Council, though I believe the security council meetings are still more of an internal process for the WMF, at least for the time being. SBassett (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
