Rapid Funds alternatives?

[edit]

IMHO organizers should seriously consider providing and advising alternatives for Rapid Funds (that are neither as Rapid nor as simple as before), hence adding to the workload and competence needed to people who want to make Satellite events. Some organizations (like Art+Feminism and WikiLovesMonuments) have been establishing since a while micro (re) granting up to certain amount, others like Queering Wikipedia 2023 are looking into ways to do this to form hybrid participation via (in-person group) nodes that can opt-in for different levels of support and different pathways to getting it. -- Zblace (talk) 08:42, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Z, I'm uncertain about whether other affiliates' microgrant programs were designed with the Wikimedia Hackathon in mind, so I'm not certain about whether these are viable alternatives in terms of seeking funding for satellite events. Individuals would need to contact those affiliates to ask about eligibility and the whether a satellite event would be eligible with respect to the funding guidelines they maintain. If you are aware of some that are currently or can fund satellite events, our general position is that we support applicants to seek funding opportunities from local or relevant affiliates first, but that Rapid Funding can be available for many kinds of mission-aligned activities. @I JethroBT (WMF) I did not want to imply that these are RapidGrants alternatives per se, but that these are models to do things differently with less pre-required commitments to fixed dates and admin work. --Zblace (talk) 07:22, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
