Noticed

[edit]

Thanks. Just the other day I had noticed a diff working better than expected in a case similar to the screenshot's (small change in a paragraph which was also moved) and that was pleasant. --Nemo 04:57, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks you and nice to hear that people notice. We really appreciate it :-). The code was not easy to handle, but we're also quite satisfied and hope we bring improvements for many cases. -- Christoph Jauera (WMDE) (talk) 12:57, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

MediaWiki 1.31

[edit]

Non-Wikimedia users care a lot about the readability of diffs, too. Please advertise this improvement in MediaWiki 1.31 or whatever is the appropriate release page, especially if separate updates are needed to benefit from it. :) --Nemo 05:01, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's generally a good point but technically wikidiff2 is not part of MediaWiki 1.31 and also does not depend on it for most cases. 3rd parties that use this library on there production servers should afaik be notified during regular updates if there's a newer version available. Anyway it might still be a good idea to add a small paragraph on the extension page giving a hint about the recent improvements. -- Christoph Jauera (WMDE) (talk) 13:05, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
In the pages major releases, we generally also include select improvements from extensions (and libraries). It's especially appropriate in this cases since sysadmins may need to reconsider their configuration for core, namely Manual:$wgExternalDiffEngine. From the extension page it looks like wikis using the Ubuntu packages don't need any action, but if so that's worth pointing out too. :-) --Nemo 13:15, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
