Target audience / page structure

[edit]

Who's the target audience for this page? The Wikimedia community, or just third party users?

If it's just for third party users of a hypothetical future tarball, I think it's in good shape right now and can be continually updated to reflect changes.

But I've seen it referenced in the general Wikimedia blog as a point of reference for coming changes. That suggests that it's intended as a Wikimedia audience document as well. From the Wikimedia point of view, I think we need to clearly indicate 1) which changes have been deployed to-date vs. which ones are still pending, 2) changes to WMF-deployed extensions.--Eloquence (talk) 20:59, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The new page structure makes sense to me :-). I'll add a few extension updates that I'm aware of.--Eloquence (talk) 17:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok :) Sorry, I hadn't seen your comment when I reorganized the pages to avoid confusion and disambiguate between releases and deployments; there wasn't much time and I only shared the proposed structure by private e-mail with Sumana & Rob. guillom 08:25, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
No worries. I started collecting a few updates for extensions. Would be nice to automate extraction of commit summaries for WMF-deployed extensions as raw input for deployment release notes.--Eloquence (talk) 00:32, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Here's a quick one to get recent extension commits, roughly after the time we stopped merging lots of fixes into 1.19wmf1, to be run in a 1.20wmf1 tree with submodules initialized.
git submodule foreach git log --after="2012-03-16" --oneline --no-merges | grep -vi "translation update" | grep -vi "localisation update" | grep -vi gitreview | sed -e 's/^Entering \(.*$\)/== \1 ==/g' > changelog.txt
This excludes localisation and translation updates. It could be compared against stuff already merged into 1.19wmf1, but right now due to the SVN/git hybrid state that's harder than it needs to be.--Eloquence (talk) 17:19, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Extension updates should now be complete, feel free to prettify, add author credits, etc.
I've not added updates for the following on the assumption that they're on their own deployment cycle: MobileFrontend, ArticleFeedbackv5, Translate, Narayam, WebFonts. (Team leads would be best positioned to qualify whether any changes to these are only in 1.20wmf1.) I've excluded i18n/l10n updates and internal code quality improvements (refactoring, docs, tests, etc.).--Eloquence (talk) 20:48, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The latest version of MediaWiki in old ones

[edit]
Now, all older versions 1.20wmfX always display :
The latest version (labeled "1.20wmf1") of MediaWiki,
The latest version (labeled "1.20wmf2") of MediaWiki ...
but they are not. This could be debug by a transclusion from MediaWiki_1.20 (or elsewhere).
For each old version, could you add a link to allow anybody to easily download it ? Thanks. --Rical (talk) 14:35, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

What gives en.wikipedia.org tooltip reference display?

[edit]

I really like en.w.o's new way of displaying references in "tooltips" when the mouse hovers over a reference number.

Is this a feature of MediaWiki 1.20/wmf6, or wmf5 or currently only in the git repository (for wmf7 thus?) or is it an extension which someone can point me to?

Thanks. Ciaran (talk) 12:00, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

You can activate it in you preference/gadget : " Navigation popups, article previews and editing functions popup when hovering over links". --Rical (talk) 14:53, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
The gadget was enabled by default recently. SPQRobin (talk) 15:10, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Aha. Thanks. Ciaran (talk) 11:56, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, got the same problem as mentioned here. Is it possible to fix the problem with these files?

Thanks Dieter

I have also this problem. I have tried to set the temp values locally in the images directory without success.

They shouldn't be necessary. I'll look into this, but more information would be helpful. Could you post your LocalSettings.php (with passwords, etc, redacted) to this thread: MediaWiki 1.20 tarball issues -- MarkAHershberger(talk) 18:01, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
