Hello

Trust this meets you well.

My name is Precious one of the founding members of Igbo Wikimedians User Group and I would like to get the growth experiments on Igbo Wikipedia.

MMiller (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello @Tochiprecious and @Oby Ezeilo! Thank you for getting in touch. We would be excited work with you, and I'm tagging my colleague @Trizek (WMF), who will be in touch with you next week.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello!

Thank you for your interest. You can know more about the features by reading the existing documentation, or by just asking us. :)

Tochiprecious (talkcontribs)

@MMiller (WMF) and @Trizek (WMF) , Thank you for your swift responses. I'll read up and ask questions where necessary.

Thank you.

Error when creating phabricator task

Papuass (talkcontribs)

When I click on "Create a pre-filled Phabricator task" it give me an error. Not sure what needs to be fixed in the link.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello!

I tried and I don't have this issue.

Are you logged-in on Phabricator ?

I can create the task for you if you like.

Papuass (talkcontribs)

Yes, that was the issue :)

I will create the task in near future.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Good! Keep us posted. :)

Switching from "experiments" to "features"

MMiller (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hi @Trizek (WMF) -- I was thinking that these days, the work the Growth team does is less of an "experiment", and now becoming more of a "feature". We've developed a good amount of proof (which we will be posting soon) that the features work, and perhaps it would be a good idea to start changing the word "experiment" to "feature" in the various places we're using it. What do you think?

Default tutorial link on Homepage

Iniquity (talkcontribs)

> The page displays a tutorial for first steps based on the link found on Q915263. This is our default configuration. You can also provide a link that is not listed on Wikidata.

Hello :) Are you sure that you want to see Q915263 not the Q3945?

MMiller (WMF) (talkcontribs)

This question is for @Trizek (WMF). He will be able to answer next week. Thanks for working on this!

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello

We picked this link because it was the most used by our pilot wikis. A different link can be picked: like the descriptions says, it is the default, but you can provide a different link.

I'll add the WD item you suggest as an option.

Iniquity (talkcontribs)

Thanks :) Can you explain what, in your opinion, should be reflected in these first steps? :)

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

The Homepage links to a tutorial. You just need to pick the right one that would help people understanding what is Wikipedia and how to edit.

Iniquity (talkcontribs)

I know this :) I just thought you might be able to advise something, since we are rewriting the help pages.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Ha, sorry!

Well, I think the best option is to think about being in an elevator: you only have a few minutes between floors to explain to someone what is Wikipedia and how to edit it. How would you phrase it for someone who don't like to read? :)

Iniquity (talkcontribs)
Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

It is up to you.

The English page is a step by step, with a lot of pages.

I think you should thunk about it with a fresh mind: maybe your option would be the right one!

Iniquity (talkcontribs)

Ok, thanks for the opinion :)

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)
Iniquity (talkcontribs)

Hi, yes, I saw this page, thanks :) I have some doubts about using tabs on example pages. As far as I know, this is not the best user experience solution.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

I'm interested about tabs. Which sources have you read that tell it is not a good thing?

Iniquity (talkcontribs)
Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Thank you! This will help further thinking about this, but no work is scheduled on help pages for now.

Tabs are one of the options suggested, even if I use them on example pages. In a perfect world, we would display the tab matching the editor people use. However, we aren't in a perfect world. :/

Iniquity (talkcontribs)

I also have no consensus with myself about tabs :) We have to think and test. But in general, I like the these page requirements.

"Translate the privacy policy in translatewiki.net" - at least one error - link to meta, point about translatewiki.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Good point, fixing!

@Samat and @Bdamokos, I'm following up on your request to have Growth experiments deployed on your wiki, to support your Grant project. The page attached details the protocol to have the features deployed. If you have any question, please ask! :)

And if you have time, you can also translate the last newsletter, so that your community will be informed about the last changes we've made.

Samat (talkcontribs)

I translated the latest newsletter to Hungarian.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)
Samat (talkcontribs)

We are discussing the proposal in order to reach community consensus according to this page. I will mention and propose this idea as well. (I subscribed and receive the newsletter already.)

Yes, please ping me a few days before you send out the newsletter in order to translate it until then. Thank you!

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Cool!

The next issue will be written at the beginning of July.
