Explanation of proposed changes

[edit]
(Copied/adapted from VP thread Topic:X0kn21jhwiowhjfh)
Navigation
  • Remove "Get MediaWiki" - already linked from Main Page
  • Remove "Get extensions" - an overwhelming unhelpful page and installing extensions is another optional part of Manual:Installing MediaWiki already.
  • Remove "Tech blog" - already linked from Communication.
  • Add "Recent news" - linking to News.
Support
  • Rename "User help" to "User manual"
  • Rename "Communication" to "Get help and support".
  • Remove "Support desk" - already linked as the first item from Communication.
Development
  • Remove "Developer portal" - already linked on Main Page.
  • Remove "Code statistics" - not a common enough use case to justify having this clutter the sidebar.
MediaWiki.org
  • Remove "Random page" - not useful on this wiki
Other
  • Nothing is changed in the sections for "Tools" or "Print/export" because those are just default.
