• Unsuccessfully tested in MediaWiki 1.13.4 PHP 5.1.6(apache2handler) MySQL 5.0.22. Set to true but no highlightning of search results.

The functionality in fact is still present. It basically does not really change the way a hit is highlighted. In so far the option is poorly named. But what it does change is which part(s) of a result page get(s) displayed: Without $wgAdvancedSearchHighlighting set, irrelevant parts might show up while with $wgAdvancedSearchHighlighting set to true, the places of the exact hits are more likely to be displayed. Thanks for clarifying. This setting works to improve Extension:Cargo "MATCHES" search results. Without it, results for search terms within double quotation marks displayed irrelevant text. With it, results for the same searches show the search terms highlighted as expected. Jonathan3 (talk) 09:02, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
