From mediawiki.org

WMF is using Apertium as a service and Apertium packaging from Debian. This document describes updating process and policies of Apertium in WMF repository.

Core packages

[edit]

Core packages provide the infrastructure to run Apertium service. Examples: apertium, apertium-apy, lttoolbox, hfst etc.

  • Update package when,
    • Package is fixing High priority/Unbreak now bug (prioritized as per Wikimedia Phabricator).
    • Package is a dependency for new or existing Apertium language pair(s).

Language pairs

[edit]

Language pairs are data for Apertium service. While they are independent of core packages, sometime it depends on specific versions of core packages. Examples: apertium-fra-cat, apertium-fra, apertium-rus.

  • Update package when,
    • Package is fixing High priority/Unbreak now bug.
    • Package is dependency for new or existing Apertium language pair(s). For example: New version of apertium-fra-cat may depends on new apertium-fra and new apertium-cat, so we need to packages all of these 3 packages at once to get fra-cat pair update from upstream.
    • New package is available and has been requested by the user community in Phabricator or Content Translation project discussion page or other channels.
    • Language pair is not supported or available in other existing MT systems.
